Swamp Eyes – Something’s In The Hall
“Something’s in the Hall” is a direct emotional reaction to a parent’s experience negotiating the profound terror surrounding an unanticipated diagnosis and its ramifications. At the age of 17 months, Sam Kuban’s daughter was given a Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis. The concept that underlies this album’s lyrics and music is the reciprocal relationship between sorrow and acceptance, beauty and ugliness. The musical implementation of the lyrics’ sad content reflects both the anger and the need for hope and relaxation. To that end, the track is a rollercoaster of musical styles, from acoustic Folk, to rebellious Indie Rock and psychedelic post-hardcore. My perspective is that if you want to enjoy and understand the album, you have to read or listen to the lyrics carefully while experiencing the music. The concept is already strong, and so is the music; the whole “package” will offer you an inner trip to a cinematic dimension of the band’s art.
