Peter Lake –  Comforts Cross (Track Review)

Peter Lake is an artist who decided to write a long poem during an unpleasant night, and it is inspired by a personal sad experience. That text originally wasn’t meant to be a song, but the emotional pressure seems to lead Peter in the right direction, to use art in order to ease the pain. The current artistic form of that poem is an acoustic Folk Rock ballad with pure lyrics and feelings that drown into a river of tears, hope, and the need for an emotional uncompressing. The flow and structure of the track make it sound more like “spoken word” or a storytelling experience than a typical music song. From the first words, the matter becomes “personal” and you are able to understand the passionate performance of Peter and the minimal chords in the background that reflect the minimal, sad mood of the performer. If I try to judge this song by taking into consideration typical musical concepts such as rhythm, musicianship, musical notes, etc., then probably I will mislead the artist into a commercial world that does not seem to be the final destination of his art. To that end, I would say that this track sounds like a personal escape for the artist and a theatrical play for the listener, who becomes part of the composer’s personal story. If you would like to listen to a song from a theatrical perspective, then close your eyes and press the Play button…
