What Strange Beasts – Cat’s Paw (Track Review)
The new single from the band presents a Prog/Symphonic Rock sound with influences from the 1980s era of the music genre and bands such as IQ, Saga, Magnum, Marillion and Rush. The chorus is really catchy and very Pomp-Rock with its epic vocals and the complex musical structure in the background. The combination of the polyphonic vocals and the melodic guitars creates such a unique, almost operatic result, which makes you realise that Prog is still alive and kicking in 2022! The audio production is professional, with no strange elements that could alter the content and the flow of the song on a major level; it reminds me a lot of the work of producer Terry Brown (especially the “Signal” era of Rush). I am confident that many of you will appreciate the band’s distinct style and dedication to a sound that we have never stopped appreciating: Long Live Prog!
