Thorn – Dark Soul (Track Review)

Although the cover artwork of the single transports us to the early 1990s, judging by the persona’s haircut, the sound of the single transports us to today. The orchestration follows a mixed direction of Dance music and Indie Rock, based mainly on physical instruments and not loops or music samples. Two singers share the battle of the male versus female vocals by creating an interesting and artistic antithesis: the “beauty” of the Lana Del Ray-styled vocals and the “beast” of the angry male vocals. The audio production has some cool experiments, especially with the filtering of the vocals and the distortion of the audio signal. Regarding the mood of the track, there is a mix of anger, fear, and an additional “strangely” relaxing tone due to the female vocals.
