Alex Julia – Skin And Bones (Track Review)
Alex Julia’s concerns with the American healthcare system and her experience with a puzzling sickness that doctors were unable to fully diagnose served as the inspiration for the original alternative rock song “Skin and Bones.” The track is heavily influenced by the 1990s grunge era and all those female rock bands like Garbage, Hole, and L7. It is a type of “mid-tempo goes hard rock” song with emotional, catchy vocals and lyrics that keep you focused on the meaning of the lyrics. I guess that back in 1995, this track would have received great airplay from MTV because it is cool and the orchestration includes no fillers: Every choice of the composer for the usage of the musical instruments is fair; the uncompressed guitars offer a raw feeling that reflects the anger of the artist, who faces a serious personal issue. Don’t get me wrong, we are not in 1995 anymore, so this track may not climb the music charts, but who really cares? Do we need pre-made tracks for plastic charts or real artists with balls (not from the sexism perspective) to shake the system and bring back the popularity of the rock ‘n’ roll attitude?
