I don’t consider me ever being “in” the music industry. I was in bands struggling to make demos and videos to get attention but I was never signed to a label or given a chance so I don’t consider me ever even being a recording artist until now when Cleopatra Records signed me.
Do you have any memories of being cast in music videos by the likes of Loverboy, Eric Carmen, Bruce Willis, and others? Any funny or strange experiences from being in those videos?
My biggest music video was “Little Lady” by the band Duke Jupiter where I was the lead actress. They were terrified I would drive the red Cadillac off the cliff because I drove so fast. They were afraid to get in the car with me. When I filmed “Hungry Eyes” with Eric Carmen we were very flirtatious with each other. In the scene where he is leaning up against the building singing, he is singing it directly looking at me as I sat in a chair. I wrote my song “Too Bad it had to be you” for Eric when I heard he was in town and didn’t call me.
What was the contribution of the producer Paul Sabu to your career?
Paul told me to find a song I liked and write something similar to that one. So I wrote and recorded “Leave my Heart Alone” and “Too Bad it Had To Be You” in someone’s bedroom. Paul liked them and he re-recorded them really brought the songs to life and beefed them up.
What do you remember from the filming of the video, Leave My Heart Alone?
I remember being happy I got a credit card approved just before we filmed so I could run out and buy two new pairs of cool boots which I wore in the video Haha. It was a happy time in my life. I was in love with my boyfriend at the time. The bass player was Tracy Ferrie who would later join Stryper and now tours in the band Boston.
Do you remember when you watched your video on MTV?
Yes but I didn’t win the competition so I was very sad. I cried for weeks.
Why did you decide to hang up your guitar in the 1990s?Do you regret this decision?
I regretted it back then but there really wasn’t anything else to do. The scene died out. I got pregnant and moved to Nashville. I got stuck there. It was the worst depressing time of my life there. I didn’t fit in and I was an outcast. I did a CD while I was there but nothing happened and I left and went back to the west coast to live in Las Vegas.
What is the content of your album “Alone In Love”, currently released by Cleopatra Records?
I gave them six songs I recorded back in the 80’s. They released them all.
Is there any unreleased material planned to be included in the next release?
Possibly. I know I recorded others back then. I just have to find them. Brian Perara at Cleopatra Records said he will release whatever I can find that I recorded back then. He is the person who discovered my songs on youtube and contacted me. He said: “When I heard it , I thought to myself “this music Is a lost treasure, it needs to be heard”
Since you were there in the late 1980s, what were the factors that led to the collapse of the melodic rock scene?
Nirvana and the Seattle Grunge scene.
Would you like to talk to us about your book called ROCK N` ROLL NUN?
The book is a compilation of stories I told in monthly issues of my magazine Vegas Rocks! Magazine. The stories were so popular I put them in a book when so many people told me that was their favorite part of the magazine each month. It is for sale on Amazon.
What are your next plans?
My film that I have worked on for six years “Raised on Rock – The Burnette Family Legacy” has just been signed to a distribution deal. It will be soon be released worldwide on movie streaming platforms. It will be the biggest accomplishment of my life releasing my film I wrote, directed, funded, produced where I am telling rock history that no one knows about. Thank you for the interview!
