Prog band Stealphish – A soundtrack for daydreaming!
Stealphish is a music project created by Josh Barker.
Josh is a well known guitarist in the Auckland music scene and currently plays lead guitar for the accoustic prog rock band “Cafe Fistfight”.
The band is fronted by Chris Moutter, an immensely talented singer songwriter. With Chris taking care of the song writing for Cafe Fistfight, Josh needed his own creative outlet. This is how Stealphish was born.
Stealphish is a fully home made music project in which Josh generally tracks with his 7string Ibanez and a 5 String bass, while the drums are programmed, often by his brother Dan Barker (drummer from cafe fistfight).
Josh and Dan have a shared enthusiasm for technical, progressive music and both have a history playing in the Auckland band Incarnium, a metal band in which Josh was a founder.
The result is something which is incredibly atmospheric, heavy yet light, and full of dynamics.
“This music is meant as an escape from “pedestrian reality”. A sound track for daydreaming.
We aren’t trying to be the best musicans in the world. We just want to make music that is unusual. It’s abstract and people can attach whatever meaning that they want to it.”
Stealphish tracks have featured guest appearances from various musicians including classical pianist Caitlyn Abbott and a guitar solo on the song “Spren” by Richard Moore (Thunderwalker).
