The Visual Lies Of Music
We increasingly consume music through visual rather than aural means. We listen to music compositions on our phones and other devices, that either visualize the lyrics of the track on a screen or act as an accompaniment to the image’s delight. From a business standpoint, this will encourage artists to write music for films, advertising, and other visual media. However, the method of music composition in the near future will potentially concentrate on creating images in the viewer’s mind, but challenging the quality of the sound (MP3 Clones?). This means that the whole experience of “music listening” will change significantly for good or for bad, depending on the sense you prefer to enjoy entertainment.
My own interpretation of this fact, is a reminder of Lizzy Borden’s singing many years ago (Visual Lies album, 1987):
“I can hear the call, I can see it all,I know you are my truth inside.
Visual lies
Visual lies”
“Visual” refers to the method of sensing music.
“Lies” refers to the “truth inside,” could we should still consider music a visual experience?
