YAWNING SONS – Sky Island (Ripple Music)

This is the new album by the band Yawning Sons, a project between the bands ‘Yawning Man’ and ‘Sons of Alpha Centauri’. From the cover artwork which visualizes a rocky area and a moody blue sky, it is easy to understand that this is going to be an atmospheric album. The antithesis of the rocky area and the relaxing blue sky, is musically obvious on the new album of the band which balances between the 1990s raw vocal lines (in the style of Alice in Chains) and the dreamy, trippy guitars on the background. The tempo of the album is partially slow, with limited distorted guitars and mainly focused on the atmosphere than the rock n roll outbreaks. If you like the Alternative Rock of the 1990s and the Desert rock guitars, then I am sure that you will love this album! The vinyl version of the album includes the Bonus 3-inch CD Ambient Visions III, including 3 Ambient remixes on previously recorded tracks by the band, curated and remixed from the artists Plantzwave and Billy Yfantis.
