WESTWIND – Despair (Steelwork Mashine)
Westwind is a project of atmospheric electronic music with elements that draw inspiration from both Sci-Fi soundtracks and dystopic movies such as Mad Max. I guess that this is a concept album since all tracks have the same title, “Despair”, although every track delivers a different vibe to the listener. For instance, track 1 embeds an epic vibe of power and musically has influences from modern classical composers and sound designers. From track 2 and on, the meaning of the word “Despair” is taking a musical form and the dramatic tone of music becomes visible (in your fantasy) and obvious (in your ears). Most of the album is instrumental, except track 8 that includes vocals by Joe Coleman and track 6 which includes lyrics by Death In June/Douglas P. This album sounds perfect as a Neofolk/Industrial soundtrack for your dystopic movie/video game or for a mind trip somewhere out in the universe.
