These will be the first area concerts The Hollywood Stars have performed since headlining an SRO show at the Whisky A-Go-Go on July 18, 2019. To coincide with that appearance, LA Weekly’s Brett Callwood published an interview with the band’s vocalist Scott Phares and designated the show as one of the paper’s weekly “Concert Picks.” The following month, Callwood chose Sound City as his “Album of the Week.”

Sound City was a “lost” album the group had recorded in 1976 but it didn’t see release until August 23, 2019. The LP was greeted with enthusiasm in both the USA and the UK. Shindig! Magazine called the album “as fine an example of powerpop perfection as one is likely to encounter” while Pandora Radio posted a hour-long conversation in which Phares discussed highlights from The Hollywood Stars’ discography. Sound City is available now via all digital retailers. It is also available on CD: https://burgerrecords.com/product/the-hollywood-stars-sound-city/

Having survived various lineup changes since 1973, the current lineup of The Hollywood Stars includes original members Scott Phares (vocals), Ruben De Fuentes (guitar) and Terry Rae (drums), alongside more recent recruits Chezz Monroe (guitar, vocals) and Nigel Taylor (bass, vocals).

During the 1970s, The Hollywood Stars toured with The Kinks and played support gigs to The New York Dolls, Bo Diddley, Ramones, Iggy Pop, and disco star Sylvester. In turn, a cavalcade of newcomers opened shows for the Stars, including Van Halen, Journey, The Runaways, The Knack, and Quiet Riot, among others.

The Hollywood Stars were the first to record classic rock anthems “King of the Night Time World” and “Escape”; those tracks later appeared on platinum-selling albums by Kiss and Alice Cooper, respectively.
