Joey Sykes (THE BABYS) Releases “Classic New Rock” Album After Successful IndieGoGo Campaign
After a successful IndieGoGo campaign that helped fund the creation of his brand new album Classic New Rock, prominent guitarist, singer/songwriter and producer Joey Sykes (guitarist for THE BABYS) has officially released the thirteen-track gem combining his talents with a myriad of guest musicians, including drummers Kenny Aronoff (John Fogerty, John Mellencamp), Josh Freese (DEVO, The Replacements, Perfect Circle), Tony Brock (The BABYS, Rod Stewart), Nate Morton (house drummer on THE VOICE), and more. Having had a great deal of success in the music industry performing with the likes of Bryan Adams, Paul Stanley, Eurythmics, Don Henley, and John Entwistle of “The Who” just to name a few, Sykes began his road to stardom with the band Coward, whose self-titled debut album on Elektra Records saw the band on MTV and Touring with Third Eye Blind in the late 1990’s. Now, having had such a great deal of success playing, writing and recording, and having his songs placed in over 30 Network TV shows like ABC’s “Nashville” and the WB’s “Everwood”, and feature film “Daddy Day Camp”, his new record is garnering praise from various music media outlets, along with the video for the first single “That’s American Life”.
With his time in Coward behind him, Sykes continued in stride as he moved from New York to California (where he currently resides) and played with Capitol Recording Artist Tommy Henriksen (Alice Cooper, Hollywood Vampires), and Meredith Brooks (“I’m A Bitch”). With Meredith and her massive band – Herman Matthews on Drums (Tom Jones, Tower of Power, Kenny Loggins, Richard Marx), Will Hollis on keys (currently playing in the Eagles, Don Henley), and Mark Meadows on bass (Edgar Winter, John Waite), he was able to fulfill a lifelong dream playing the Madison Square Garden stage. Touring the US and Europe with Brooks, Sykes also had the opportunity to perform at the Staples Center, The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, as well as appearing on many national TV broadcasts from the Top of the Pops in Germany to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and VH1’s Hard Rock Live in New York.
Having completed his new record Classic New Rock (released via Purple Virgo Records), Joey is more excited than ever. The sound and style of this album fuses classic rock influences with a modern rock sound. His songs are lyrically thoughtful with big, power pop hooks. Early magazine reviews say of the release: “There is a solid mix of different musical styles; some tracks are not unlike what you’d expect to find on an Elvis Costello or Big Star record, while others slow things down some, and some are more modern pop-rock driven. A surprise cover of The Raspberries’ “Go All the Way” is definitely a highlight as well. For this record, Sykes and his backing musicians definitely do a great job; this is an elite assortment of talent that are definitely up for the task at hand.”
As Sykes continues to build on his ever-growing resume as not only an incredible guitar player but a proven songwriter and producer, Classic New Rock is a true showing of his many talents! Hear it for yourself and get your copy today!
