FIST – The N.W.O.B.H.M Legends

1. How easy or hard was to sign with the UK labels during the N.W.O.B.H.M days?

Quite easy for us – As the band Axe; we were a well-known, popular, North East of England Rock band and having recorded some demos at Impulse studios, we were asked to sign with Neat Records. We changed the name of the band to FIST and Neat records released ‘Name Rank and serial number’ as our first single

2. What did the multinational labels thought of the N.W.O.B.H.M?

I think they saw the success of Iron Maiden and Def Leppard and wanted to ‘get in on the action’ and sign NWOBHM bands…

3. How was the experience of signing with MCA Records back then?

We were a young band and it was great to be signed to a major label. They gave us a chance to do a full British tour with UFO and record our first album at a major studio, but, looking back, really didn’t know how to promote NWOBHM bands

4. What is the current line up of the band?

Lead Vocals/ Guitars – Glenn S Howes Guitars/vocals – Dave Irwin Bass/Vocals – Norman Appleby Drums – Harry Hill

5. Have you written or recorded any new material?

Fist has started writing new songs. Nothing recorded as yet.

6. Do you think that Neat Records played a role in the development of the N.W.O.B.H.M?

Yes !- Neat were definitely one of the major NWOBHM labels and also made metal fans aware of other great bands such as Raven, Venom and Tygers of Pan Tang

7. What happened after 2005 and the release of the album Storm?

The band split. We later decided to get back together and were asked to headline the first night of the NWOBHM Brofest festival in 2014 in Newcastle (our home town). We were amazed that so many fans, from different countries, were there and knew all our songs and gave us such great reception !

8. How do you see the future of the band right now?

We are currently writing new songs now with a view to getting something out as soon as we can and to continue playing live shows Like the ‘Rock you to Hell festival’ !

9. What the fans should expect from your show in Athens, Greece at Rock You To Hell festival?

Sweaty in your face, loud rock fun !

10. Please send a message at the Greek readers.

Fist are excited to be playing our first ever show in Greece. We look forward to meeting our fans and making new friends. Let’s turn the hell on !
