John Fogerty Sues Over Creedence Name

John Fogerty claims drummer Stuart Cook, bass player Douglas Clifford and Poor Boy Productions violated a settlement agreement over use of the name Creedence Clearwater Revival. After the 1972 breakup of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cook and Clifford launched a tour in 1995 under the name Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Fogerty says. He sued the duo in 1996, resulting in a settlement agreement where Cook and Clifford promised Fogerty part of any revenue from touring under the name. The pair kept touring under the Creedence name, but refused to pay his 5.5 percent of gross revenue and 25 percent of merchandising, according to the lawsuit. Stephen R. Mick and David W. Nelson with Barnes & Thornburg are representing Fogerty in Los Angeles Superior Court.
