Lionel Richie’s collection rised 2693% after the Glastonbury concert
Lionel Richie’s headline-grabbing Glastonbury performance has translated to a 2693% boost in sales for the star’s best of album, Lionel Richie & The Commodores The Definitive Collection. The LP could top the Official UK Albums Chart this weekend after the singer pulled in a Glasto crowd thought to have topped 100,000 in his Sunday legend slot.
The Definitive Collection previously reached No.10 on the Official Chart upon its release in 2003, this week climbs 103 places midweek and is set to mark its first Top 40 re-entry in six years.
Richie could earn his first No.1 album in 23 years – previously hitting the top with 1983’s Can’t Slow Down and 1992’s Back To Front.
17 of today’s Official Albums Chart Update Top 40 belongi to Glastonbury 2015 acts, including headliners Florence + The Machine’s How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (2) and The Who’s Who Hits 50 (12), who both saw week-on-week uplifts of 57%, as well as James Bay’s Chaos and the Calm (4), and Jungle’s Jungle (26).
