Streaming Audio Grows 40% In Triton Digital’s February 2015 Ranker


Triton Digital, a leading technology provider for the audio industry, unveiled its monthly Ranker for February 2015, providing insights into listening trends measured by the Webcast Metrics audience measurement platform. Listing in February 2015 continued to trend positive, with Average Active Sessions (AAS) up by more than 40 percent compared to February 2014. Mobile listening also rose steadily, representing 72.7 percent of all audio streaming during the month.

“The steady gains we saw throughout 2014 are continuing this year in the streaming audio space,” said Rob Favre, CCO/GM Measurement & Analytics at Triton Digital. “Listening on mobile devices has been particularly interesting to watch, as it edges closer to three quarters of the total listening pie. It will be exciting to see if and how this trend will be impacted as consumers begin to use newer devices like smartwatches.”

Key findings from the February 2015 Ranker include:

* Total listening for clients measured in February 2015 showed 4,125,821 AAS during the Domestic Monday-Friday 6:00AM-8:00PM (M-F 6A-8P) daypart, and 3,481,328 AAS during the Domestic Monday-Sunday 6:00AM-Midnight (M-Su 6A-Mid) daypart.
* Compared to February 2014, AAS within the Domestic U.S. grew by 40.2 percent (M-F 6A-8P) and 43.6 percent (M-Su 6A-Mid).
* Mobile listening continued its gradual upward trend, representing 72.7 percent (M-F 6A-8P) of total listening in February 2015, compared to 27.3 percent on desktop.
* During the M-F 6A-8P daypart, 37 percent of listening took place on an iOS device, followed by Android (31 percent), Google Chrome (8 percent), and Flash Player (6 percent).
* Of the top 20 markets, Minneapolis-St. Paul showed the largest listening gain with a 13.9 percent increase in AAS (M-F 6A-8P), followed by Phoenix (13.6 percent), San Diego (11.4 percent), Portland (11.0 percent), Denver (9.6 percent) and Los Angeles (8.7 percent).
* Compared to the month prior, the Top 40 (CHR) format showed the largest gains with an 11.5 percent increase in AAS (M-F 6A-8P).
