Fleetwood Mac to headline Isle of Wight Festival

Fleetwood Mac have been confirmed to headline the 2015 Isle of Wight Festival, ruling out an appearance at Glastonbury. The band will perform on Sunday June 14, and festival organiser John Giddings said it would be “a moment in music history”. It is believed to be the first time the “classic” line-up – Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie – have played a UK festival, and it will be their only festival date next summer.

Securing the band is a coup for the Isle of Wight, as Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis was keen to bag them but was told they were unavailable. Glastonbury’s most recent announcement was that Lionel Richie will play the Sunday tea-time slot.

In a statement, Fleetwood Mac said: “We’ve always wanted to come to the UK to play the Isle of Wight Festival and so we are delighted that in 2015 we are finally making it happen.

“So many of our fellow artists and friends have played at this historic event over the years, and we can’t wait to see all our fans on the island next summer.”

Christine McVie recently rejoined the band after a 16-year absence.

John Giddings said: “It’s no secret that Fleetwood Mac have been on my wish-list for the Isle of Wight Festival for some time now, so I’m very pleased and extremely proud to have them headline next year’s event.

“With Christine now back in the band too, it is going to be a momentous occasion – a moment in music history.”
