Guns N’ Roses feature film said to be on its way
The story of Guns N’ Roses is reportedly being adapted into a feature film. Marc Canter, co-author of a 2008 book about the band called Reckless Road, claims that the biopic will be “[done] right”, “no shortcuts”, and will feature “a few A-list [actors]”.
“When you find out who is making the movie, you will then understand that it will be very cool,” Canter wrote on the Guns N’ Roses website MyGNRForum (via Henne Music). Although no studio, producers or director have been announced, the project has apparently been in development for “about four months”, and Canter is consulting on the screenplay.
“The people I’m working with are the best ones to do this project,” he explained. “[Reckless Road] tells the killer rock’n’roll story of the best band around … [and the film is] just going to KICK ASS! In no way will it be a cheesy movie like [2001 Mark Wahlberg vehicle] Rock Star … It will bring a whole new slew of fans and sell a shitload of records for the band.”
This isn’t the first proposal to make a movie about Guns N’ Roses. In 2012, the band’s former drummer Matt Sorum said he was “in talks about with a couple of pretty big people” about writing the script to a biopic. “If you look at rock’n’roll movies … like Mark Wahlberg and Rock Star … they’ve never been done right … [With Guns N’ Roses] there was a much sort of more street, dark undercurrent happening that could be great on film.”
Slash, however, has been much less enthusiastic: “I don’t think rock’n’roll translates in the movies,” he told the Belfast Telegraph earlier this year. “I don’t think they really get the gritty vibe of what it’s like … [and] I would not like to see a Guns N’ Roses biopic.”
Despite their central roles in the band’s 1987 classic, Appetite for Destruction, as well as in the book Reckless Road, neither Sorum nor Slash are currently members of Guns N’ Roses. Still led by Axl Rose, the group’s current lineup is allegedly working on a new studio LP and their first remix album.
