Lemmy: ‘One of my favourite bands is ABBA’

Motorhead frontman Lemmy has admitted a secret appreciation for Swedish pop group Abba. In an interview with The Huffington Post, the 68-year-old was asked to reveal something about himself that would completely surprise readers, to which he responded, “One of my favorite bands is ABBA”.
The bassist also spoke of his youth and the artists who first inspired his passion for rock ‘n’ roll. “I heard Little Richard and Elvis and that was it, you know? Then I went to London because that’s where you had to be in Britain. You can’t do it from anywhere else really. Even the Beatles had to go to London.”

Motorhead were in the news last July when an unnamed German fan of the metal band was treated for a blood clot on the brain after headbanging at one of their gigs. However, doctors at the Hanover medical school, where the 50 year-old man was treated, were keen to stress that they do not believe that headbanging is a dangerous activity in general.

“We are not against headbanging,” Dr Ariyan Pirayesh Islamian told The Guardian. “The risk of injury is very, very low. But I think if [the patient] had gone to a classical concert, this would not have happened.”
