Australia’s live revenue hit record high in 2013
Live entertainment revenue hit AUS $1.479 billion (approx. £839m) in 2013, with contemporary music events accounting for 42.5% of ticket sales.
The figures come from Live Performance Australia in its Annual Ticket Attendance & Revenue Survey report, with the revenue representing the highest since the survey began.
Overall ticket sales were up 22.7% from AUS $1.205bn to AUS $1.479bn, with total attendance rising 10.2% to 17.93m. The average ticket price in the territory was up 7.8% to AUS $92.16 (£51.57).
Major music tours cited as significant contributors to the uplift include those of Beyoncé, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, One Direction and Pink.
Chief executive of Live Performance Australia, Evelyn Richardson, said that the organisation is “mindful that performances by the small to medium sector, and at regional venues, continue to be underreported in this survey.”
LPA has therefore been working closely with Australia Council for the Arts and the Australian Performing Arts Centre Australia (APACA) to redress this issue in a new supplementary report to be released in 2014.
