EMI re-launches in China and South East Asia


EMI has been revived in China and South East Asia. The re-launched of EMI China was marked today by the signings of Mandopop superstar A-Mei along with Show Lo and Rainie Yang. EMI ended much of its operations in Asia over five years ago but Universal Music Group has been investing in the label since its acquisition in 2012. “EMI’s heritage in the region makes this is a very exciting re-launch,” said chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group International Max Hole. “At Universal Music we’re huge believers in the potential for the music business in China and the importance of investing in local artists. A-Mei, Show Lo and Rainie Yang are such talented artists that I’m delighted they have agreed to join us in the new EMI China.”

George Ash, President, Universal Music Asia Pacific said: “It is an honour to be part of rebuilding EMI which has such a rich legacy of supporting Chinese artists and music in China. Today, we are starting the next chapter in this story by welcoming A-Mei, Show Lo, and Rainie Yang, three of the most talented and iconic artists in China, to the EMI label.

“Sunny Chang is the best music man in China and with his leadership and incredible team we are committed to building EMI into one of China’s great domestic labels once again and a central part of a vibrant and internationally successful Chinese music industry.”

A-Mei has been named EMI’s Greater China Brand Director to acknowledge her stature in the Chinese music scene.

During the press conference, the Mandarin pop diva, announced that Show Luo and Rainie Yang would be joining her as part of the new EMI China family.

Sunny Chang, chairman and CEO, Universal Music Greater China, welcomed the artists to EMI saying:  “We are proud to continue EMI China’s enduring legacy through A-Mei, Show and Rainie. This is the start of a new era for the label and we are excited to bring the music of these well-loved artists to a new generation of fans.”
