US band Miss May I release statement after fan dies stage diving at New York gig

21-year-old Alberto Scott  died after attending the group’s show at New York’s Webster Hall (May 4). As Stereogum reports, Scott stagedived during the show but no members of the audience caught him, while Billboard says that he did not die immediately after the dive but collapsed after leaving the venue.Writing on their Facebook page, Miss May I said: “As many of you will have heard, Alberto Scott, a Miss May I fan in attendance at our Webster Hall show on Saturday night tragically died. We were deeply shocked and saddened to hear this news. We are awaiting a full report from the New York Police Department.”
They added: “In the meantime, we’d ask that all your thoughts and prayers be with his family. We have been made aware of a webpage that is raising funds to help pay for his funeral costs. We will be making a contribution and we’d strongly urge others to do so.”

The band then included a link to a Gofundme.com page set up by Jenise Ramos Sarraga, who is said to have known Scott through her daughter. A memorial page collecting tributes for Scott, meanwhile, has been created by Sinestra Studios.
