Music industry executives moves
Warner Music Group has announced that Alain Lanceron has been appointed as President of Warner Classics and Erato and will be based in Paris overseeing creative direction, A&R, brand-related projects and global catalogue development. The management team assisting Lanceron includes Jean-Philippe Rolland, EVP, International A&R and Business Development, Markus Petersen, SVP, Global Marketing and Operations, and Bertrand Castellani, VP, International Catalogue. Swedish-based collection society for music creators and publishers STIM has appointed Alfons Karabuda as acting CEO replacing the former acting CEO Helena Woodcock who will return to her position as General Counsel. Doug Morris, CEO of Sony Music Entertainment has announced that Jason Iley has been named as the new Chairman/CEO of Sony Music UK & Ireland. Iley was previously President of Jay Z’s Roc Nation Records and before that President of Mercury Records. Back in the US, Warner/Chappell Music has appointed Travis Carter as A&R Manager reporting to Ben Vaughn, EVP, Warner/Chappell Nashville. Beats Music has named Bozoma Saint John as SVP and Head of Global Marketing. Dan Silver has been named as VP of Creative at Riptide Music Group which resulted from the merger of Riptide Music and Pigfactory.
Universal Music Group announced that Def Jam, Island and Motown Records will function moving forward as standalone labels. Steve Bartels will serve as CEO at Def Jam, David Massey will continue to run Island, and Motown will now be helmed by Ethiopia Habtemariam and will return to Los Angeles where it will be housed in the Capital Tower. Barry Weiss, Chairman and CEO of East Coast Labels, is stepping down and will enter discussion with UMG about a new venture. UMG A&R executive Karen Kwak has been promoted to a new position as Executive VP A&R, US Recorded Music and Def Jam has appointed Kyambo ‘Hip Hop’ Joshua and Dion ‘Nol.D’ Wilson as EVPs and co-heads of A&R. Matthew Tilley is the new EVP of Business Development at Disciple Media which builds music apps. Tilley was previously SVP of International Marketing at EMI.
