Spain: 84% of entertainment content is pirated, says report
More than fourth fifths of all online entertainment content in Spain is accessed illegally, according to a new report out of the territory.
The report, The Observatory of Privacy and Digital Content Consumer Habits for 2013, suggests that illegal downloads are increasing at a rate of 4.6%. The way in which consumers access pirate sites is evenly split between direct visits and search engines
The sponsored report was commissioned by an industry coalition of music, movie, publishing and video game companies. According to El Pais, it was issued on Wednesday, just in time for a congressional debate on intellectual property legislation, scheduled for Thursday.
Spain’s Culture Ministry dismissed the report, calling it a “rough opinion study commissioned by interested parties” and pointing out that it had not been sent to it in advance for analysis.
