Rick Rubin To Be Honored By David Lynch Foundation

Legendary music producer Rick Rubin will receive the Lifetime of Harmony Award from the David Lynch Foundation through its new performance arts events division, DLF Live. The Dixie Chicks, along with Damien Rice, Jake Bugg and surprise guest artists will provide the entertainment. It all takes place this Thursday (Feb. 27) at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the David Lynch Foundation’s ongoing campaign to bring transcendental meditation programs to at-risk adults and youth around the world. Noted for his directorial work in films (“The Elephant Man,” “Blue Velvet”) and television (“Twin Peaks”), Lynch established the foundation eight years ago. Since then, it has provided scholarships to teach meditation techniques to more than 300,000 people, including veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, female survivors of domestic violence and underserved inner-city students.

This year the foundation added a concert component with the launch of DLF Live. The new initiative kicked off Jan. 20 with a salute to Ringo Starr at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre. In addition to receiving the foundation’s Lifetime of Peace & Love Award, Starr and his music were feted by such notables as Peter Frampton, Ben Harper, Dave Stewart and Bettye LaVette, led by musical director (and Blue Note president) Don Was. Artists for whom Rubin produced projects is the thematic tie-in for his upcoming celebration.

DLF Live executive producers Jessica Wisk and Erik Martin note that the division’s launch slate includes two more tent-pole events in 2014: an upcoming show in Detroit and another in London where the David Lynch Foundation recently became established in the U.K. as a non-profit.
