Stevie Nicks Wants to Write Music for ‘Game of Thrones’

Stevie Nicks has already shared her talents with the kids of Glee and the witches of American Horror Story. Now the Fleetwood Mac singer has her sights set on Westeros: In a new interview with Radio Times, Nicks said she would love to write music for Game of Thrones. Nicks said she discovered the hit HBO show back in 2011 after her mother’s death and credits it with helping her through that difficult time in her life, which also included a bout with pneumonia. “I’ve written a bunch of poetry about it – one for each of the characters,” she said. “I’m always looking for that kind of inspiration, and I’m very inspired by it — as I was very inspired by Twilight.”

Along with divulging her favorite characters – Khaleesi and Cersei Lannister (the latter because she’s “just mean as shit”) – Nicks marveled at series creator George R. R. Martin’s ability to craft such a meticulous, massive story: “It blows my mind that he’s able to create this vast, interlinked world. As a songwriter I write little movies. But I can’t imagine sitting down and writing even one small book, a novel. We each have our thing that we’re really good at.”

If Nicks were to score a gig on Game of Thrones, it certainly wouldn’t be without precedent, as the show has made a habit of tapping bands and artists to make cameos and record music over the past few years. Last season, the Hold Steady recorded one of Westeros’ favorite drinking songs, “The Bear and the Maiden Fair,” while the second season found the National performing “The Rains of Castamere” following the Battle of the Blackwater. Sigur Ros are slated to appear on the show’s upcoming fourth season, though it’s unclear if they’ve also recorded a tune or will simply have cameo roles à la Coldplay drummer Will Champion or Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on Sunday, April 6th at 9 p.m. EST. You can get a healthy look at the upcoming season in the show’s epic 15-minute trailer, which promises plenty of blood, dragons and even another wedding (one can only hope it’s a slightly happier affair than last season’s nuptials).
