Eurythmics to reunite for tribute to the Beatles

Eurythmics will perform together again later this month in a tribute to the Beatles, it has been announced.  Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart, who released their debut album as a duo in 1981 and have gone on to release nine studio albums, will perform the day after the Grammys on January 27 at the Los Angeles Convention Centre. It forms part of a special Beatles night called The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles.  The pair have not performed together since 2006 but posted on their Facebook page last month that fans should expect a forthcoming “surprise performance”. After splitting in 1990, they reformed in the late nineties before parting company again in order to pursue solo careers. Their last release came in 2005 with the single I’ve Got a Life, which formed part of a compilation album.
Other artists expected to perform at the event include John Mayer, Keith Urban, Alicia Keys, John Legend and Maroon 5.

Speaking about the announcement, Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich said: “When it came around to booking this show, what I felt was important was to try and find those artists who not only would be able to interpret Beatles songs, but would also have an… understanding of what they meant.”

The show, which will air on CBS on February 9, marks the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ US debut on the Ed Sullivan Show. It is not yet known whether Paul McCartney or Ringo Starr will attend.

“They [the Beatles] really did change people’s lives, so what I’m hoping this show gets across is the message that occasionally in history we are touched by certain artists who have a profound effect on us beyond just the music that they make,” Ehrlich said.
