Dan McCarroll named Warner Bros. Records president in the US


Former Capitol Records president Dan McCarroll has been named president of Warner Bros. Records in the US. McCarroll will begin in the role on January 1, 2014 and report to chairman and CEO Cameron Strang based in Burbank CA. “It gives me great pleasure to welcome Dan to Warner Bros. Records,” said Strang. “Enormously admired and respected throughout the music community, Dan brings a rare combination of talent and experience to our company. An accomplished musician, publishing executive, A&R man, and label head, Dan has a deep understanding of artists and record making. He is the perfect fit for our music-driven mission at Warner Bros., and I’m looking forward to working closely with him as we deliver more great records from the incredible artists on the Warner Bros. label.”

McCarroll said: “I am thrilled to join Warner Bros., whose creative culture has long been a model for our industry. The company has a fantastic team, and it’s an honor to join with everyone to build on the label’s iconic legacy.  I want to thank Cameron for this truly exciting opportunity; I can’t wait to get to work with everyone and make some great music.”

As the president of Capitol Records, McCarroll led artist discovery and development efforts in the United States at a time when the Group’s frontline artists included Elton John, Katy Perry, Emeli Sandé, Capital Cities, Ryan Adams, Sky Ferreira, Tori Kelly, and The Beach Boys.

Prior to his role at Capitol, McCarroll served as EVP of North American Creative, EMI Music Publishing.  In his 10 years at EMI, McCarroll signed and worked with artists and songwriters, including Butch Walker, Death Cab For Cutie, Pat Monahan and Train, John Mellencamp, Cobra Starship, Regina Spektor, Travie McCoy, Toby Gad, Steve McEwan, David Hodges, Alter Bridge, and Panic! At The Disco.

McCarroll joined EMI Music Publishing’s A&R team in Santa Monica in 2002, before moving to New York in 2007 to lead the company’s East Coast A&R operations.He had previously run the A&R department for The Music Company, the Elektra imprint formed by Lars Ulrich. Prior to that, he spent many years as a touring and session drummer.
