Stevie Nicks tells Christine McVie she ‘doesn’t have to ask’ to play with Fleetwood Mac

Stevie Nicks has said that she told Christine McVie that she doesn’t have to ask if she wants to rejoin Fleetwood Mac. McVie recently expressed an interest in permanently re-joining her old band, after leaving in 1998.

She said to The Guardian: “I like being with the band, the whole idea of playing music with them. I miss them all. If they were to ask me I would probably be very delighted.” This September McVie joined Fleetwood Mac onstage at London’s O2 Arena, to perform her track ‘Don’t Stop’.

Now Nicks has spoken to Billboard about the situation, saying that she has talked to McVie, saying: “If Chris wants to come back to the band, I said to her, ‘It’s your band. I don’t really think you have to ask. Because it’s your band. McVie. Fleetwood Mac-vie? So, it all depends, Chris, on you. How you feel. Do you want to take this on again?'”

She added that she doesn’t know if McVie will rejoin the group. “I don’t know what she’ll do. Story to come. To be continued,” said Nicks.

On her reasons for quitting the group, McVie recently told The Guardian. “I think I was just music’d out. I suffered from some kind of delusion that I wanted to be an English country girl, a Sloane Ranger or something… and it took me 15 years to realise that it’s not really what I wanted at all.”

Her ex-husband, John McVie, was recently diagnosed with cancer, leading Fleetwood Mac to cancel their Australian and New Zealand tour so he can seek treatment. When asked how he was doing, she responded: “really good. He’s having his treatment in LA right now, but they caught it really early so he should be up and running in a couple of months.”

Bookmakers recently stopped taking bets on Fleetwood Mac headlining Glastonbury Festival in 2014. Ladbrokes were previously offering odds of 1/4 on seeing the band headline the Pyramid Stage in June next year. However, following an increased period of speculation and Fleetwood Mac’s recent UK tour dates, the betting was suspended.
