Ted Nugent on Running for President: ‘Sure, Why Not?’
He’s teased it for months, but it appears Ted Nugent may be seriously considering — if not fully preparing — a bid for President of the United States. In an interview Monday with Detroit’s WCSX, Nugent touched on his political aspirations.
“I have threatened to run for public office, because I have been prodded to do so, and pushed hard in Texas and other states, and here in Michigan,” Nugent told WCSX program director Jerry Tarrants, who had asked the rocker whether or not there was a presidential or political run in his future. “And I believe my sense of logic, my sense of common sense, my connection to people who are in the asset column of America. I believe that I would perform an enormous upgrade in returning to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and most important of all accountability.”
When Tarrants asked Nugent if that was, in effect, a confirmation that he’ll run for office, he responded, “Sure, why not?”
Nugent, a staunch supporter of the Republican Party, has criticized the current U.S. government for being “out of control… bloated and infested with fraud and deceit and corruption and abuse of power,” according to an interview with the Associated Press earlier this month.
He also called President Barack Obama a “monster in the White House” who “wouldn’t qualify to drive my tour bus.” In a past interview, he said he would be “dead or in jail” if the president was reelected in 2012.
