Paul McCartney Defends Miley Cyrus: ‘What’s Everyone Shouting About?’
Paul McCartney says he doesn’t understand all the fuss over Miley Cyrus’ suggestive stage show at the MTV VMAs. “C’mon, we’ve seen worse than that!” the former Beatle told Sky News while promoting his latest album, New.
McCartney, 71, said he had no qualms about letting his 10-year-old daughter watch Cyrus twerk: “I watched it as an experiment to check, but you look at it and you say, ‘What’s everyone shouting about?’ I think it was only mildly shocking . . . it wasn’t explicit at all.”
Meanwhile, Sufjan Stevens weighed in on the still-raging Miley controversy, posting an amusing open letter in response to all the other advice and criticism she’s been getting. The indie star praised her new song “#GETITRIGHT” before needling her for her grammar.
“One particular line causes concern,” he wrote: “‘I been laying in this bed all night long.’ Miley, technically speaking, you’ve been LYING, not LAYING, an irregular verb form that should only be used when there’s an abject, i.e. ‘I been laying my tired booty on this bed all night long.'”
