Oasis reunion won’t happen, says Noel Gallagher

Band’s chief songwriter responds to rumours of Knebworth gig next year by stating: ‘I’ve got no intention. I’m not interested’ Noel Gallagher has rejected claims that Oasis could reunite in 2014. “It’s not going to happen,” the elder Gallagher brother declared, despite reports the band was mulling a “huge” offer to perform at Knebworth in August.

“Maybe people keep thinking that if they say it, it will eventually happen,” Gallagher complained to TalkSport’s Andy Goldstein (via NME). “One can never say never, because one might be skint. But I’ve got no intention. I’m not interested.” The only chance of Oasis returning next year, he said, is if “they’re doing it without me”. “But without me it would be rubbish.”

For the past week, tabloids including the Daily Mail have been advancing the theory that there is a “secret plan” for Oasis to reconcile. Next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the band’s debut, and “sources” have claimed that the Gallaghers would reconvene to play Definitely Maybe “from start to finish”.

Unlike Noel, Liam Gallagher has repeatedly indicated that he’s “up for” an Oasis encore. “We could bury the hatchet for a quick lap of honour,” he said in June. “I’d do it for nowt, but if someone’s going to drop a load of fucking money, I’d do it for that too … [Then] I’d still go back to Beady Eye and Noel would go back to his thing.”

The Gallaghers’ differing levels of enthusiasm could be related to the success of their respective solo projects. Liam’s two Beady Eye albums debuted at No 3 and No 2 on the UK’s official album chart; those albums’ total combined sales amount to about half of the more than 700,000 copies Noel has sold of High Flying Birds, which topped the chart in 2011.
