Australian government pledges $560,000 to live music scene

The Australian government has pledged A$560,000 (approx. £332,470) to help the country’s live music scene.

Funding will be used over three years to house the National Live Music Office – headed up by recently appointed national live music co-ordinator Ianto Ware.

The office will “identify and advocate for reforms to the planning, building and licensing laws that have been ravaging live music and arts venues in Australia in recent years,” according to a statement issued by APRA.

Among the projects will be the launch of a National Best Practice Guide. The guide aims to set a standard for state and local governments who wish to support Australia’s live music industry.
