Blondie Refute Retirement Rumours

1 min read

Rumours that Blondie are set to retire have been refuted by the band. Blondie are virtually an institution. One of the most commercially successful bands to emerge from the CBGBs scene, their skinny ties, converse and sharp riffs persona has been aped by countless groups across the decades.

Returning in 1997, the band have remained a potent presence ever since. Lead singer Debbie Harry, though, is the subject of renewed speculation and one band member was quoted as warning that she may retire.

Drummer Clem Burke told the Daily Mail: “Debbie is 11 years older than the rest of us, so it’s on her mind”.

“We’ve tried to keep it going for as long as possible, but it’s not just up to me. Nothing is finalised yet, but obviously there’s no Blondie without Debbie Harry.”

Following this, a spokesperson for Debbie Harry told the newspaper: “They are in a hiatus at the moment. They will do some tour dates next year. Nothing is confirmed yet.”

As NME point out, Blondie are scheduled to release new studio album ‘Ghosts of Download’ later this year. Meanwhile, the band themselves posted on Facebook: “No plans to stop working, don’t believe everything you read”.

So it seems that the iconic group won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
