Pink Floyd Make a ‘Big Change,’ Pact with Imagem Music U.K
Pink Floyd have partnered with Imagem Music U.K. for their publishing. Through the deal, announced today, Pink Floyd Music Publishers has struck a deal that will see Imagem Music U.K. administer the songs of David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright in the Pink Floyd catalog. The works of Roger Waters remain with Warner/Chappell. Pink Floyd have self-published for more than 40 years through Pink Floyd Music Publishers, under the stewardship of Peter Barnes.
This new worldwide agreement covers the seminal albums from “Atom Heart Mother” to “The Dark Side Of The Moon” and through to “The Division Bell” as well as their respective solo albums, and came into effect from July 1, 2013.
“This is a big change for us,” comments Paul Loasby, Tony Smith and Garth Tweedale, managers for their respective clients in Pink Floyd. “Together with Peter Barnes we did a detailed review that made us really think about what we needed from a publisher partner. That’s not easy when the band had effectively done their own publishing via Peter Barnes for PFMP since the days of Atom Heart Mother.”
The trio added, “We wanted all the flexibility we have now combined with creativity, enthusiasm and the ability to punch its weight for us in the digital world. We met and liked the team and we all feel that we are going to get the sort of personal service we need. We are very much looking forward to it”.
Pink Floyd’s desire to punch hard in the digital world is worth noting. The band has until recently moved at glacial pace toward the digital business. Last month, Pink Floyd struck a promotional campaign with Spotify to enable their catalog to be streamed via the subscription service. Earlier, Pink Floyd entered (and subsequently settled) a legal battle with EMI over the label’s right to “unbundle” their albums and sell individual tracks online.
Pink Floyd is one of the biggest acts in recorded music history. According to EMI, their record label, the band have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide, and in the United States alone, 1973’s “The Dark Side of the Moon” has sold upwards of 45 million copies and is the country’s third best-selling album ever.
Imagem was founded in 2008 by Group CEO André de Raaff and has offices in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Milan, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels and Amsterdam with exclusive agents throughout the world.
