Oasis on Spotify: hold-out ‘will be addressed very soon’

The Oasis catalogue looks set to arrive on Spotify in the UK in the near future, with the band’s management  telling Music Week it’s “purely a matter of timing”.

The Manchester band’s repertoire has been one of the most famous hold-outs from the service since it launched in 2008.

Although the post-Oasis work of both Noel and Liam Gallagher – High Flying Birds and Beady Eye, respectively – is on the platform, Ignition has so far resisted making available tracks from albums such as Definitely Maybe, (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? and Dig Out Your Soul.

However, speaking in an extensive interview on Ignition’s record company operation in today’s Music Week magazine, the group frankly responded to the situation with positive news.

“It is the case that historically the Oasis catalogue isn’t on Spotify in the UK, but we’re talking to Spotify at the moment to address that – and it will be addressed very soon,” said Ignition Records director John Leahy.

Ignition co-owner Alec McKinlay, who has worked with the band since 1993, added: “It’s purely a matter of timing. If you’re working with artists in any part of the industry, you have to engage with fans in the way they want you to.”

Other long-term Spotify holdouts who catalogues have recently emerged on the platform and other streaming services include Metallica, Pink Floyd and The Eagles.

It has recently handled similar self-released albums from the likes of Primal Scream and Stereophonics, as well as Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

Oasis are one of just a handful of artists whose catalogue remains unavailable on Spotify. Others include The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and AC/DC.S
