Bruce Springsteen working on new album

There may be a new Bruce Springsteen album in the pipeline. In an interview with Rolling Stone during his current tour, Springsteen said he has “stuff [he’s] working on that [he’s] very happy about”.

Springsteen added that he was making plans for a new album and that he had “a lot of material”.

Springsteen’s last album, Wrecking Ball, was released in March 2012 and went to number one in 16 counties, including the UK and America. It was also nominated for three Grammy awards.

The Born To Run singer has been on the global Wrecking Ball Tour since March this year, and said that he and his band have been to the studio in between shows to work on new material.

Springsteen explained that it was the first time they had recorded while touring, but that his band, which includes Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine as a temporary replacement for E Street guitarist Steve Van Zandt had provided him with inspiration. He said: “We did a couple of things that I wanted to put down. So that was very exciting.”

A new studio album would be the 18th from Springsteen, who has released six albums since The Rising in 2002. He said of the period, “this has been the best 10, 12 years we’ve ever had”.

Springsteen and the E Street Band altered their set on the Coventry leg of their tour out of respect to James Gandolfini, who died on Thursday, dedicating a full album performance of Born to Run to the actor.
