Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief), Jonas Renkse (Katatonia) to release “Wisdom of Crowds” this June via Kscope
The Pineapple Thief frontman, Bruce Soord, and Jonas Renkse from Katatonia have announced a June 4, 2013 release date for Wisdom of Crowds, their new project, set to drop this spring on Kscope.
Originally written with Renkse’s voice in mind, Soord sought out the acclaimed Katatonia vocalist to complete the compositions and release the music to the masses. Despite the rigorous schedules of The Pineapple Thief and Katatonia, the two musicians were eventually able to connect and the rest is rock n’ roll history.
“The sonic tapestry of ‘Wisdom’ is very different to The Pineapple Thief,” said Soord. “TPT has evolved into a distinct sound, so with this project I was able to let my ideas run amok! I was able to use everything I have grown to learn and love about music, while still producing a cohesive record.
“As for Jonas, I’ve wanted to work with him since the first time I heard his voice on The Great Cold Distance. I just didn’t think it would be possible because he’s so busy. So I was bowled over when we were able to make it happen early this year! His voice is absolutely perfect for this project, and he elevated the record to a whole new level. You’ve really got to hear it to understand what this record is about.”
Added Renkse, “This project attracted me because the songs were good, and it felt like they would suit my voice. Bruce is a very talented musician/producer; I really like what he is doing in The Pineapple Thief, so I looked forward to work with him.”

While this new work will open exciting new doors for both musicians, the artists are currently enjoying unparalleled success with their main bands.
The Pineapple Thief has just completed a successful European tour following the release of All The Wars in September. Rock Sound described All The Wars as, “an album of Muse-like, slow burning guitar anthems,” while Classic Rock Magazine stated it was “the sound of a band reaching the height of their powers” and Outburn declared it “a very modern take on involved, complex progressive rock…a solid example of a band gaining more confidence with each successive release.”
Katatonia also released a new album last year. Dead End Kings was released on Peaceville Records in August and reinforced the band’s position as “one of the most consistently fascinating bands in modern heavy music.” (Metal Hammer, 9/10). The album featured heavily in the album of the year polls of magazines around the world and was also nominated for a Grammy in the band’s homeland of Sweden.
Katatonia will embark on extensive North American tour in April and May (with Opeth) and will be playing numerous festivals throughout the summer.
