Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore: ‘Music is a tough industry to break into’

1 min read

Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore has said that music is now – more than ever – a “tough” industry to break into.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Gore said that “times have changed” since his band formed.

He commented: “I don’t want to be pessimistic, but times have changed so much. I’m not saying it was easy when we first started out, but at least there was a healthy record industry and record companies were looking to sign bands and there was money flying around.”

He added: “It’s really difficult now. I even have nephews who make music, my daughter makes music. I don’t know what advice to give them these days. It’s really a tough industry to break into.”

Depeche Mode released their new album, ‘Delta Machine’, earlier this week.

The electro-veterans recently revealed that they turned down the opportunity to win a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Brits this year after learning that ITV had no intention of airing footage of them accepting the award.
