David Bowie could be cast in one of Sir Trevor Nunn’s West End shows

Sir Trevor Nunn, the acclaimed theatre director, says he is hoping David Bowie will agree to act in one of his forthcoming productions. With his first album in 20 years entering the charts at Number One, and an exhibition of his costumes proving a sell-out at the Victoria & Albert Museum, David Bowie is enjoying a new lease of life.

The 66-year-old rock star could, however, be about to add yet another string to his bow. Sir Trevor Nunn, the celebrated theatre director, says he wants Bowie to appear on the West End stage.

“I’d love to have him in one of my shows,” he tells Mandrake at the private view of the David Bowie Is exhibition. “I’d love that. I really hope it might happen.”

The former artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre asked Bowie to appear in one of his shows in the past.

“It was 1984, when I was putting on a production of Peter Pan,” says Sir Trevor. “I so wanted Bowie to play the part. He couldn’t do it because he was so busy, but the show went on and I kept on asking him. Mark Rylance went on to play the part at some stage.”
