Cherry Red Announce New Signings For 2013

Cherry Red, one of the UK’s original and most eclectic independent labels, has today revealed initial details of their 2013 release schedule.

This will include a new album (title & release date tbc) from Mancunian legends The Fall – a milestone 30th studio effort – as well as new recordings from The House Of Love (She Paints Words In Red, the ex-Creation band’s first studio release since 2005), The Alarm (the soundtrack to forthcoming feature film Vinyl, starring Phil Daniels and Jamie Blackley), Marc Almond, Todd Rundgren and John Lees’ Barclay James Harvest.

All will be released globally by Cherry Red via their international network of partners, with the promise of further high profile signings throughout the year.
The label, which acts as an umbrella for more than 20 individual imprints across a wide range of genres, still releases an incredible 40-50 CDs per month – more than 500 a year.

Key catalogue titles for Q1 2013 include releases from Lynsey De Paul, Dave Edmunds, Hawkwind, Francoise Hardy, Blue Aeroplanes, Greg Lake, The Partridge Family, Dana Gillespie, Freda Payne, Girlschool, Spandau Ballet, The Soup Dragons, Tangerine Dream, Thunder and Uriah Heep.

Cherry Red founder Iain McNay said: “Cherry Red celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2013 and, as an independent record label, I can’t think of a more exciting time to be in this business. With some fantastic new signings and some great catalogue reissues on the cards, we will continue with our industrious release policy, bringing great albums to the masses of music fans who still love physical product.”

Adam Velasco, Managing Director at Cherry Red Records, added: “Cherry Red’s award-winning reputation for catalogue reissues is second-to-none, but we also have decades of experience in bringing new releases to market. Everyone here is proud to be working with true legends such as The Fall, Marc Almond and The House Of Love, and we look forward to kicking off 2013 in some style.”

These announcements follow a hugely successful 2012 for Cherry Red, with acclaimed releases including Yin & Yang, the historic reunion between PiL legends Jah Wobble & Keith Levine; On The Hot Dog Streets, the long-awaited third album from Go-Kart Mozart, current musical vehicle of ex-Felt leader Lawrence, the subject of recent cult biopic “Lawrence of Belgravia”; A Life Within A Day, the debut studio album from Squackett, the collaborative project by Yes founder Chris Squire and ex-Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett; and ALT, the latest album from Van Der Graaf Generator.

Leading Cherry Red’s catalogue sales were deluxe reissues from The House Of Love, Samantha Fox, Barclay James Harvest, The Osmonds, Fred Neil, Bill Fay, The Knack and Ian Hunter.
