New York Rock & Roll Ensemble – The “unknown” rock band of Manos Hadjidakis

In 1969, the famous Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis recorded his first and only popular music album with the New York Rock & Roll Ensemble. The album was called “Reflections” and it was a mix of soft rock and Greek folk music.

The line up of the band was:

Michael Kamen – Keyboards, Oboe, English Horn, Synthesizer, Vocals
Μartin Fulterman – Drums
Βrian Corrigan – Rhythm Guitar, Vocals
Clifton Νivison – Lead Guitar, Vocals
Dorian Rudnytsky – Bass Guitar, Cello, Piano, Trumpet, French Horn

New York Rock & Roll Ensemble featured Michael Kamen who later collaborated with Rush, Metallica and Queensryche. Another member of the band was Marty Fulterman who is known as Mark Snow and recorded the famous theme music for sci-fi television series The X-Files. Clif Nivison, the other member of the New York Rock & Roll Ensemble formed Borzoi, a hard rock band with a small success in the New Jersey-Pennsylvania club scene. To the best of my knowledge, there is no official album release for that band.

Few people know that New York Rock & Roll Ensemble was ready to reunite for the Olympic Games in Athens and M. Kamen was working on that project before passing away. Moreover, another interesting fact was that before “Reflections”, Manos Hadjidakis was about to collaborate with Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane) but he did not proceed for unknown reasons.
