Concert promoters introduce affordable ticketing to tackle ‘out of control’ prices
One of the UK’s biggest gig promoters has spoken out about “out of control” ticket prices. AEG will introduce a new pricing system similar to that used by airlines to make gig-going more “affordable”, the BBC reports. “If you’re unemployed if you’re a student it’s impossible to go to stadium gig nowadays,” says Rob Hallett, president of international touring for AEG, which books tours for Lucy Rose, Justin Bieber, Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift and Bon Jovi. “Ordinary fans have been priced out of live music in recent years.”
He added: “I’ve had several artists contact me in the last couple of days asking if we can look at this for their next tours.”
The move comes after Bon Jovi announced that tickets for their upcoming arena tour would be available for as little as £12.50, rising to £125 for the best seats.
The 30,000 tickets for the two London dates announced by The Rolling Stones for their 50th anniversary this month were snapped up in minutes despite costing between £90 and £375 each. Tickets were listed on eBay shortly afterwards for as much as £5,800.
