EVALINE – Is THERE anybody THERE?

Interview with Steve Pederson

1. Welcome guys, please introduce Evaline to the public..

We are a rock band out of California.

2. What about your latest album Woven Material, please share with us your experiences from the recording of the album.

Woven Material is a collection of songs we wrote over a period of about four years. When it came time to record we got together with producer Dan Austin and flew to England to record most all of the songs that made the album. It was our first time overseas as a band and it was a very exciting a

3. The single “There there” has been a very popular track here due to the placement in UEFA’s advertisement.  Would you comment on that?

It was such a great opportunity for us! We never imagined the song being used for something like that, but think it worked out really well.

4. Are you worried of characterizing you as “one hit wonders” due to the popularity of “There there”? Which other tracks in your album are really powerful so as to enforce the argument that you are more than a “hit single” band?

Aside from “There There,” we also have “Picking It Up,” “Hours,” and “Beneath The Fire” that have been used as singles in various different countries.

5. You belong to the same management with Placebo. How that would broaden your music and commercial horizons?

We love Placebo and have had the pleasure of touring with them in the past, which puts us at an advantage of being able to reach a pretty diverse crowd.

6. You come from California, US. What are the main differences that you notice in the European music industry compared to the American one?

First thing that comes to mind is that radio is much different. The kind of music that makes the radio in Europe is generally much better than the crap we hear all the time on most commercial radio stations.

7. You seem to be the next big thing for the music journalists in UK, how do you intend to use this promotion push from the Brits?

Well we are just hoping to keep the momentum going by touring as much as possible in these areas.

8. You have shared the stage with My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park and other major artists. What are the advantages and disadvantages of being a support band for superstars in comparison with being a headliner?

When you share a stage with such established bands like My Chem or Linkin Park, the fans really only want to hear the headliner. So, a lot of what we do is to win the crowd over, which can be tough sometimes. The advantage is that these are such big shows that we usually win over more than enough people to make it worthwhile.

9. I am aware that you have a large following in Asia as well, especially in Philippines. Do you plan to create something special for that market?

We are always trying to do special releases, remixes, and bonus tracks in those areas that seem especially fond of what we do

10. What do you expect from your live show in Greece?

Well it has been postponed for the time being, but we are really looking forward to getting to play in Greece soon.

11. What the most important things that the Greek fans should know before entering the live venue?

hmm.. I don’t really know. We just want you to come out to the show and have a good time with us.

12. How is life on the road?

We love life on the road. It’s tough living out of a suitcase and on a tight budget, but every time we do it we realize how lucky we are to be traveling while doing what we love.

13. What are your next steps in terms of music and tour?

We are currently writing the music for our next album!

14. Which is your best advice for new bands?

If you love what you do and believe in it, then don’t stop doing it.
