Green Day partner with video game Angry Birds

Green Day have teamed up with video game developer Rovio in a partnership that will see the American punk band feature in mammoth-selling mobile and Facebook game Angry Birds.

The band will get their own 10-level ‘episode’ in the Facebook version of the game, which tasks players with launching bird characters at fragile structures in an attempt to demolish the homes of a group of green pigs.

The green pig villains will bare the resemblance of Green Day members Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool with the band’s music also featuring in the game.

Specifically, Green Day’s new single Oh Love will be made available through the game alongside other new track Troublemaker.

“We’re all fans of Angry Birds,” says Armstrong. “It’s such an addictive game that when we first started playing it we couldn’t stop. Go Team Green!”

Rovio chief Mikael Hed attended Midem this year, saying that his company had learned from the music industry’s mistakes when it came to combating piracy and now thought of its user base as fans rather than customers.
