Fair of Freaks – The More I Want / ‘Swedish melodic hard rock – for fans of Dokken, Bonfire and Scorpions

Fair Of Freaks were formed by Lars Boquist who was previously in the bands Pole Position, Reptilian and Neondaze. Lars was also featured in Guitar Player magazine and after Neondaze, Lars had fresh new inspiration to form a full band after Neondaze (with singer Marcus Lundgren) came to a halt, due to the 400 mile distance between both musicians.
Fast forward to 2008 and Lars contacted his ex brother in law Anders Johansson to start a new band. Through Anders, Lars met frontman Sean Sanders who also bought along to the table drummer Hampus Landin (Miss Behaviour, Taiga, Neondaze). The band did several rehearsals and with no original material written, the guys decided to form a Van Halen tribute band, an idea that had been with Lars for some time.

A year later, armed with a new bass player and loads of gigs, the idea to record original material started to influence the guys. Neondaze was no more since Marcus had quit and even though the band found it fun to play Van Halen songs, they still had that fire in their belly’s to record their own compositions. The first song they wrote together was ‘Changes’ and within a year the band had ten songs written and demoed and they decided to enter the studio to record them.

The band financed the recording themselves with all bass and guitar parts being recorded at Lar’s home studio. Vocals were recorded in their rehearsing room with only the drums recorded in the studio. Everything was then handed over for mix at Milk Studios, Norrköping, Sweden.

The band wanted to issue the CD right away and get out there gigging, so they decided to use the services of CD Baby (cdbaby.com) instead of searching for a label, which has proven to be fruitful for the band.

Now the FOF are busy promoting their debut release ‘The More I Want’ which was released in May 2012 and has already been gaining strong reviews and airplay.

‘The More I Want’ is the hugely enjoyable new ten track album from Swedish melodic rockers Fair of Freaks. ‘Beautiful Ice’ is awesome, it’s a sturdy grooving song that is a little like Lynch Mob and Dokken. Everything slides together perfectly and Sean Sanders sounds awesome, excellent melodic rock. ‘Changes’ is a more upbeat catchy rocker with raspy vocals and superb guitar work, a little Scorpions in style. ‘Different Situation’ holds the record together and comes over l ike Gotthard and Bonfire. ‘Holy Disguise’ is more anthemic based and again comes over like Scorpions. ‘Now You’re Gone’ is a solid mature melodic track. This is one of my favourite tracks and has a really good melody, a little like Fair Warning with soaring vocals from Sean. ‘On and On’ is another upbeat anthemic fun ditty and ‘Winterbound’ is a storming rocker, it’s a gutsy track with a very addictive chorus and
excellent playing.  There is so much to enjoy from this album and the songs flow with ease and you can tell that the band had fun recording this album. I’m really excited about these guys’ – Nicky
