Learn The Business Of Music At The Independent Music Conference 2012

A new path has opened for musicians seeking commercial opportunity, and it leads to the 2012 Independent Music Conference (IMC2012) Oct. 18-21 in Los Angeles, CA, presented by indie heavyweight Noel Ramos. Tentatively planned for December 6-9 in Connecticut’s capital, the second IMC in 2012 will be a homecoming for its founder, who is a native of the Nutmeg State.

The old path, still promoted by some if not most music conferences, is to show up, hang out, pay to play a few songs for a “showcase,” and hope to get signed by a record label. Voila! Instant fame and fortune? Not for most, and especially in this current economy, which is seeing the quick decline of major record labels.

But while the majors may be in decline, the independent music industry is in rapid expansion. The new path for musicians is to take control of their business, and that’s where IMC2012 steps in with an intense focus on education and networking for independent artists. Around 125 industry experts conduct workshops, give seminars, mentor one on one, and cover all aspects of the business of independent music. And since it’s a music conference and there’s no separate fee to perform, participants can expect to enjoy many live performances!

Founded in 2002, the Independent Music Conference will conduct conference number 13 in Hollywood, and number 14 in Hartford. The registration fee for IMC/LA is $109, but only $75 for early bird registration. IMC/CT registration rates will be announced soon. Just click on the register button at IMC2012.com to take advantage of the discount.

As many past participants attest, IMC can be a big career-booster. Singer/songwriter, Ziva Hadar had these very kind words to say: “This conference has already had a huge impact on my life. I am so grateful to have met Noel and the instructor team, who have all been incredibly professional, knowledgeable and kind. They have been an invaluable resource to me personally and to all of the conference attendees, continuously providing relevant and up-to-date information via the IMC Facebook group and online mentoring sessions.”

This ongoing education and networking that the IMC provides year-round to its registrants is just another way the conference stays true to its educational mission… “So many music conferences just pay mere lip service to the artists that pay to attend them, but Noel has made certain that the IMC is completely different –a real place for artists to gather real and useful, applicable knowledge and expand their contacts with real industry insiders who can help make a difference.” — Emiko Carlin, President, The 6423 Ltd.

“Any artist who is serious about building an entrepreneurial business model centered on their creative output will benefit greatly from attending IMC2012,” says the Director, Noel Ramos, “as will peripheral industry members. Since the late ’80s I’ve been a trailblazer for the independent music market, and as an early adopter, I used the internet to promote and advance the industry, helping it grow from a handful of artists and businesses into a multi-billion dollar, global market. The IMC has always been on the cutting edge of the internet and new technologies, teaching the techniques, tactics, tips and methods for utilizing social networking sites as well other technologies.”

In addition to founding, organizing and hosting the IMC, Ramos is the publisher of InterMixx independent music magazine, covering the world of indie music since 1988, and the owner of IndieGate.com, a major retail hub for indie music sales.
