TEENAGE COMPOSER & DRUMMER DEBUTS ON ITUNES

Some might say that rock is dead, but drummer Elijah Wood represents a youth devoted to -and leading- the cause. On March 20th, iTunes and United for Opportunity release “Somnium,” an instrumental rock composition driven by his percussion and passion. “To comprehend that Elijah Wood is only 16 years old and coming up with music like this is difficult at best. This kid is going to be a star. This track is better than 90% of the rock bands out there today that are twice his age.”- Tony Harnell, TNT

Elijah has heavy hitters behind his music: both Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) and Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) have given him their rock seal of approval, and he is endorsed by percussion cornerstones Zildjian, Evans, Tama, and Vater. And they should, Wood has been honing his skill on the drums since the young age of 5, and his work and talent have taken him touring all over the country since he was a preteen.

“Somnium” has been described as ‘a wonderful testimony to instrumental rock.’ The ebbs & flows tell a distinct story, a tension of sounds that is attractive to listeners of all genres. Wood’s percussion steers the melodies of his composition forward, stunningly performed by friends Steve Costello and David Z. on guitar and bass.

Elijah Wood is the son of world-renowned electric violinist Mark Wood and vocalist Laura Kaye. A drumming prodigy, he joined The Mark Wood Experience (MWE) as drummer in 2006, tours extensively with Electrify Your Strings (EYS)-an explosive educational program designed to empower students through music. Electrify Your Strings has been featured on the Today Show, among others, and the organization has visited over 200 schools.

Elijah is also a member of the alternative rock band Coldest Fall. Formed in Turkey, Elijah collaborates with members of Coldest Fall (and musicians throughout the world) via the Internet. Elijah recently enrolled in New York’s prestigious Professional Children’s School, which allows him the freedom to focus on his music.
