BMG Hires Sanken Sandqvist To Lead Scandinavian Expansion
Rights management company BMG has appointed seasoned music executive Sanken Sandqvist to expand its operations in Scandinavia, based in Sweden, the world’s third biggest music export nation.
Sandqvist – an accomplished producer, engineer, recording studio owner, A&R executive and record label president – takes up the role of General Manager with immediate effect.
He said, “Scandinavian writers and artists are hungry for an alternative route to the world market while international writers deserve better representation in Scandinavia. BMG has the resouces and the infrastructure to fill both of those gaps in the market and to become a creative flagship across the region.”
Most recently Sandqvist was responsible for International A&R Exploitation at Warner/Chappell Scandinavia where he was responsible for signing hit folk duo First Aid Kit, Max Martin collaborator songwriter Alexander Kronlund (Britney Spears, Robyn) and producer/songwriter Lasse Mårtén (Lykke Li, Primal Scream).
His production credits at his own internationally-renowned ToyTown studio in Stockholm include Killing Joke, Paradise Lost and Clawfinger. Previously he was President of MVG Records, then known as one of the most creative independent Swedish labels.
BMG Managing Director of European Repertoire Fred Casimir said, “Scandinavia is one of the most creative music markets worldwide and BMG will continue to grow by converging the new recording and music publishing business models. Sanken Sandqvist brings us great experience from both sides and I am looking forward to working with him.”
Sanken Sandqvist replaces as BMG Scandinavia General Manager Åsa Enström who will switch to the role of General Counsel.
