Metallica could move 2013 tour dates to cash in on exchange rates
Metallica could move tour dates scheduled for 2013 to take advantage of the dollar’s strength over the euro.
Talking to the Wall Street Journal, the band’s manager Cliff Burnstein pointed out that “over the next few years, the dollar will be stronger and the euro weaker.”
“If that’s the case, I want to take advantage of that by playing more shows now because they will be more profitable,” he said.
Metaillica will be playing their self-titled ‘Black’ album at Donington Park at various European festivals throughout summer next year.
“You have t ask yourself, what’s the best time to be doing what, when and where,” Burnstein continued. “We’re a US export the same way Coca-Cola is. We look for the best markets to go to. Right now Indonesia is on my watch list.”
Burnstein, who also manages the Red Hot Chili Peppers, also suggests that the California band is being forced to bring their European dates because of uncertainty in the euro countries. The band makes 75% of their profits from touring outside the US.
Warner Music, which represents both bands in the UK, says that reports of Metallica and The Chilis being forced to move tour dates to next year are “nonsense”.
